In the samurai drama Yoidore Kotouji (Drunken Kotoji), former wandering samurai Akame Kotoji seeks a peaceful life in an Edo tenement house owned by Kujiya Shouemon. However, vengeance follows him. Tajiri Tojiro, the chief retainer of the humiliated Mitsushima family, sends the assassin Sudo Heihachiro to eliminate Akame. Meanwhile, Shouemon introduces Akame to Oryo, a lady-in-waiting serving Mizuno Kenmotsu of the Mizushima family. Though initially reluctant to help her, Akame eventually decides to pick up his sword again. Sudo, desperate for a fencing instructor position, attacks Akame while carrying his infant son. Following a fierce duel, Akame defeats Sudo but is left with the orphaned baby boy. With the help of the tenement residents and Oryo, who aspires to be a poet, Akame navigates the unexpected challenges of love and childcare. Through this journey, the weary swordsman begins to find a new and profound meaning in life.
