Winter Begonia is a captivating historical drama set in 1930s China, telling the poignant story of a gifted Peking opera performer and a wealthy businessman whose lives intertwine through their shared passion for the art form. The narrative begins with Shang Xirui, a talented Peking opera performer, striving to achieve fame in Beiping despite facing opposition as an outsider. Undeterred, he dedicates himself to promoting Peking opera. His exceptional talent captures the attention of Cheng Fengtai, a wealthy businessman, who becomes deeply fascinated after witnessing a performance. Cheng Fengtai quickly becomes Shang Xirui's ardent supporter, assisting him in establishing Shui Yun Lou and training a new troupe. Their world takes a dramatic turn in 1937 with the Japanese invasion of Beiping. Inspired by the patriotic fight, both Shang Xirui and Cheng Fengtai are compelled to make profound sacrifices for their country, transforming their artistic journey into one of national defense.
