Set in 1993 Japan, a few years after the economic bubble burst, Watashi to Iu Unmei ni Tsuite follows Fuyuki Aki, a woman struggling to prove herself in a male-dominated corporate society. Having broken up with her colleague and boyfriend, Sato Yasushi, due to her career frustrations, Aki is left unsettled when Yasushi announces his upcoming marriage. At the wedding, Yasushi's mother, Sachiko, hands Aki a letter asking why she made the wrong move, believing they were bound by fate.
