"Utahime" presents a captivating dual narrative, starting with Koizumi Akira, the son of a celebrated songstress, who travels to a quaint smalltown cinema in Kochi Prefecture. His purpose: to attend the final screening before the historic theatre closes its doors forever. The movie Akira watches takes him back to the very same village, but decades earlier, during Japan's Showa 30s (1950s) in the immediate post-war era.

Within this film, the audience follows the intriguing story of a young soldier. He washes ashore one day, completely devoid of his memories. Taken in by the compassionate family who owns the village cinema, he is given the new name Shimanto Taro. Despite his forgotten past, Taro quickly integrates into the community, forming strong bonds with the villagers. Through his new life, he discovers an unexpected passion for movies and finds himself falling deeply in love with a spirited young girl from the village. This plot explores memory, identity, and the magic of cinema.
