Description:

Under the Open Sky introduces Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza, as he steps back into society after serving a 13-year sentence for murder. His primary goal is to locate his long-lost mother, from whom he was separated as a child. In his desperate search, he applies to a TV show, leading him to cross paths with young TV director Tsunoda. Mikami faces significant challenges trying to secure a proper job and assimilate into a world vastly different from the one he left. His inherently impulsive and unyielding nature, along with deeply ingrained beliefs, frequently causes friction in his relationship with Tsunoda and others who try to assist him. This compelling drama explores themes of redemption, the struggle for acceptance, and the difficult journey of finding one's place anew. Adapted from Ryuzo Saki's novel Mibuncho, the film offers a powerful look at human resilience.
