Set in June 1945, the Japanese special drama Tsuma To Tonda Tokkouhei SP follows Yamauchi Fusako, played by Horikita Maki, as she travels alone to Manchuria to reunite with her husband, Setsuo, played by Narimiya Hiroki. Setsuo serves as a second lieutenant and instructor for young soldiers destined for suicide attacks in the Kwantung Army. In Manchuria, Fusako experiences a brief period of peace, enjoying abundant food and safety from air raids alongside other military families, including Michiba Kazuo and his wife Etsu. However, this fleeting happiness is soon shattered when the Soviet Army invades the northern border, forcing settler communities like Fujita Hideo's to flee for survival. As the Kwantung Army receives orders for final sorties, Fusako and Setsuo's peaceful life quickly collapses. This poignant historical drama captures a deeply moving story of love, duty, and sacrifice during the final days of World War II.
