In the chilling horror thriller The Wailing, a seemingly peaceful village is suddenly struck by a plague of mysterious, violent deaths. While the police conclude that poisonous wild mushrooms are the cause, rumors point to a mysterious Japanese man living nearby. Police officer JongGoo hears these rumors, which are soon fueled when he meets MooMyeong. She tells JongGoo that she saw the Japanese man at the scene of the latest deaths, causing his doubts to waver. Dread strikes home when JongGoo’s daughter, HyoJin, suddenly comes down with the same crazed, violent symptoms as the deceased villagers. Desperate to save her, JongGoo heads out into the mountains to find the old Japanese man’s home. Meanwhile, his mother-in-law calls in a shaman named IlGwang to perform a frantic exorcism on HyoJin. As the sickness spreads, death lingers in the air.
