Description:

The Taste of Tea is a charming film about the eccentric Haruno family living in rural Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo. Nobuo, a professional hypnotherapist, teaches his son Hajime the game of Go. While Hajime excels at the game, he struggles with the awkwardness of puberty and relationships. Meanwhile, Yoshiko rejects the traditional housewife role, choosing to work on animated projects at home with the help of Akira, her eccentric animator grandfather. Their eight-year-old daughter, Sachiko, is quietly haunted by a giant, silent clone of herself and constantly looks for ways to escape its watchful gaze. The family dynamic shifts when Uncle Ayano, a visiting sound engineer, arrives to seek closure from his past. Ayano shares a mystical childhood story that deeply influences Sachiko and connects the family's strange, beautiful experiences. Through these whimsical individual journeys, the movie explores the deep, unspoken connections that bind a family together in the peaceful countryside.
