Set in the snowy mountain town of Matsugane, The Matsugane Potshot Affair is a dark comedy directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita, based on a novel by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. The story begins when Miyuki is found seemingly dead on an icy road after a hit-and-run. However, she miraculously wakes up in the morgue. The driver who hit her is Hikari, the simpleminded twin brother of Kotaro Suzuki, one of the town's police officers. Miyuki refuses to cooperate with the police, hiding the origin of an ice pick wound. Once released, she teams up with her gangster boyfriend Nishioka. Together, they blackmail and abuse Hikari to keep him quiet about their illegal schemes, which involve a stash of stolen gold buried deep under the ice. Filled with black humor, blackmail, and rat poison, this chaotic tale goes beyond the ineptitude of the twin brothers to expose the gross stupidity of the entire town of Matsugane.
