Other name: 啊摇篮, A Yao Lan, Yao Lan

Description:

"The Cradle" is an inspiring historical drama set in China during the turbulent 1940s Anti-Japanese War. It chronicles the extraordinary journey of the Yanan Nursery, a unique institution established by the central government. Initially, progressive youth Chou Zi Gang resists his appointment to lead it, but his perspective shifts dramatically when Chairman Mao Ze Dong personally entrusts his daughter to the nursery's care.

The film vividly portrays the daily lives within this crucial sanctuary, where orphans, soldiers' descendants, and children of revolutionary leaders like Mao Ze Dong and Liu Bo Cheng are cared for by dedicated, often illiterate, rural women. Viewers witness their resilience through numerous historical challenges: battling deadly whooping cough, surviving relentless enemy plane bombings, and an arduous struggle to cross the Yellow River. In 1947, facing Kuomintang attacks on Yanan, Mao Ze Dong and Zhou En Lai command a perilous retreat. The nursery's convoy of over 300 people endures violent enemy assaults, underscoring the unwavering courage of revolutionary workers fighting to protect China's red descendants and secure its future amidst the chaos of war.
