Set in the 1920s during the Japanese occupation of South Korea, The Age of Shadows is a tense historical drama. Lee Jung Chool, a former member of the Korean independence movement, now works as a police officer for Japan. He receives an order to take down the Righteous Brotherhood, a Korean independence group. To do this, Lee Jung Chool introduces himself to art dealer Kim WooJin, pretending to be interested in his artworks. In reality, Kim WooJin is the regional leader of the Righteous Brotherhood. Although both men are well aware of each other's true identities and intentions, they get closer to seek out more information. When the Righteous Brotherhood learns of spies within their group, they attempt to clamp down on the moles. Soon, their identities are leaked, forcing them to flee to Shanghai China. Lee Jung Chool and Japanese police officer Hashimoto lead forces to Shanghai China, where the Righteous Brotherhood decides to acquire explosives for an attack on the Japanese government in Korea.
