Summer Detective kicks off in a tranquil rural setting, where three inseparable elders, Chaoying, Shuhe, and Zhanyi, share a deep friendship and frequent drinks. Their comfortable routine takes an unexpected turn when Chaoying, after decades of hard work, abruptly sells off his entire herd of cattle. To the surprise of his friends, Chaoying immediately pours his newfound funds and ambitious spirit into a complete renovation of his old, dilapidated house. This sudden, uncharacteristic shift piques the curiosity of Shuhe and Zhanyi. As the warm summer days unfold, their friendly concern slowly evolves into a subtle investigation.
