In the sci-fi adventure Space Battleship Yamato, Earth faces total annihilation. In 2194, deadly alien beings called the Gamilons launch meteor bombs, wiping out most of humanity and leaving the planet highly radioactive. By 2199, survivors are forced to live underground to escape the toxic atmosphere. The hope of mankind lies with Susumu Kodai Takuya Kimura, a retired army pilot. While scouting the ruined surface, he discovers a mysterious communication capsule from Iscandar, a planet located 148,000 light-years away. The message reveals that Iscandar possesses a substance capable of neutralizing the deadly radiation on Earth. Determined to save his home, the Defense Force of Earth constructs the massive Space Battleship Yamato. Susumu Kodai comes out of retirement to lead a brave crew on a desperate cosmic mission. With just one year remaining before the radiation completely destroys all life, Susumu Kodai and his crew must embark on an epic battle.
