Set in the early Showa period, the film delves into the captivating world of rakugo storytelling through Yakumo. He forms a strong friendship with the exceptionally talented rakugo storyteller, Yurakutei. Yakumo greatly admires Yurakutei's skill and strives relentlessly to reach his level of performance. With guidance from the geisha Miyokichi, Yakumo hones his craft and matures as a rakugo artist.

Yurakutei and Miyokichi eventually marry, but their lives are tragically cut short in a mysterious accident. Yakumo takes their child, Konatsu, under his care and raises her. However, Konatsu grows up harboring resentment, believing Yakumo is responsible for her parents' demise. Years later, Konatsu, alongside Yakumo's disciple Yotaro, embarks on a determined quest to uncover the truth behind her parents' deaths, a truth Yakumo has carefully kept hidden for decades.
