Other name: 真犯人, The Real Culprit

Description:

Shinhannin (Japanese Drama) is a gripping crime mystery that begins in 2008 with the murder of Sudo Isao, a used car dealer in Shizuoka Prefecture. Detective Kusaka Satoru of the Susuno Precinct takes the case and uncovers a tragic past. Sudo's young son, Obata Mamoru, was kidnapped and killed in Shizuoka back in 1974. To solve this, Kusaka must look into the past, specifically the year 1988, when police chief Hashibami Yasuhide ordered a special unit, led by superintendent Shigeto Seiichiro, to reinvestigate the kidnapping before the statute of limitations ran out. Why was Sudo, who lived in Tokyo for two decades, murdered in Shizuoka? Believing the old kidnapping holds the key, Kusaka tracks down the retired Shigeto for clues. By making contact with Mamoru's mother Saeko and her sister Rie, Kusaka begins to unravel the mystery and close in on the real culprit behind both tragedies.
