In contemporary Tokyo, the peaceful life of suburban dad Yaichi and his young daughter Kana takes an unexpected turn. Their world is disrupted by the sudden arrival of Mike Flanagan, a hulking and affable Canadian. Mike introduces himself as the widower of Yaichi's estranged gay twin brother, Ryoji, and shares his quest to explore Ryoji's past.

Reluctantly but dutifully, Yaichi and his family welcome Mike into their home. What unfolds is a deeply moving and unprecedented exploration of Japan's largely still-closeted gay culture. The story poignantly examines how this culture has been affected by the West and thoughtfully considers how the next generation can begin to change deeply rooted preconceptions and prejudices. This film offers a heartbreaking yet hopeful look at family, acceptance, and understanding.
