Manatsu no Shonen: 19452020 unfolds an extraordinary summer adventure when high school friends Ryuji, Satoru, and Atsushi, seemingly troubled but actually humble country boys from 2nd grade class B, experience a life-altering event. While at their secluded secret spot, a sudden, powerful shake and the sound of thunder thrust a mysterious figure, Sanpei, into their present. Clad in a dirty military uniform, carrying a backpack and a bayonet, Sanpei reveals himself as a soldier from the past, specifically from Guam right before the end of the war.

The boys are immediately captivated by Sanpei. They quickly form a deep bond, sensing that his unexpected arrival could fundamentally change their lives. Eager for more, they extend a heartfelt invitation for Sanpei to spend the entire summer with them.
