However, their lives are forever changed near Bikini Atoll when a sudden blinding flash reveals a massive atomic explosion. Before retreating, the crew lingers to clear their fishing gear, unwittingly exposing themselves to a deadly rain of radioactive grey ash. Upon returning to port with their skin burned brown, the sailors unload their catch, unaware of the looming danger. As the contaminated fish sparks nationwide panic, the crew is rushed to Tokyo for medical examinations.
