Description:

Set in the dawn of the Meiji period, Laughing Under the Clouds follows the three Kumou brothers, Tenka, Soramaru, and Chuutarou. They serve as ferrymen to Gokumonjou, an inescapable prison built in the middle of a giant lake to house dangerous criminals. Along with their housekeeper Shirasu Kinjou, the brothers live a seemingly peaceful life in the cloudy town of Oumi. However, a dark secret looms over their family. Every three hundred years, a terrifying serpentine beast named Orochi awakens within a human vessel, threatening to plunge the world into absolute destruction. Unbeknownst to the younger brothers, the true duty of the Kumou family is to seal this monster away before its full resurrection. As the shadow of the beast draws near, the brothers must face dangerous trials and find the resolve to protect their world while continuing to laugh under the clouds.
