In 1980 San Francisco, seventy-two-year-old Guo Xue Hu is reminiscing about her hometown Dadaocheng when she receives a surprise visitor. A young man named Xin Xong approaches her with a letter from his father, Yi An. Through this letter, Guo Xue Hu learns that Yi An passed away the previous year. As she connects with Xin Xong, she begins to share stories of the 1920s, the era when she first met his father. Through her vivid recollections, Xin Xong envisions his father as a young man, gaining a deeper understanding of the person he was. Guo Xue Hu's memories drift back to those turbulent times, bringing to life the tortuous love story between Yi An and Ru Yue.
