Kotonoha centers on Kaori, a girl ostracized and bullied because her words often hurt others unintentionally. One day, seeking an escape, she wishes to God to truly express her feelings honestly. A unique leaf then falls, bearing the handwritten question, "Whats your name," penned by Saki, a girl who cannot speak. This peculiar encounter blossoms into a deep, daily friendship. Saki patiently guides Kaori, teaching her how to forge meaningful connections and build friendships. As Kaori successfully applies these lessons and finds new companions at school, she slowly distances herself from Saki. Yet, Saki holds a final, profound lesson: an emotional word meant to encapsulate the special bond of a friendship nearing its profound conclusion.
