Kiseki no Dobutsuen SP captures the heartwarming yet challenging reality of Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido, the northernmost zoo in Japan. Newly appointed director Sakauchi Zen works tirelessly to construct a new giraffe enclosure, but the zoo's staff face deep personal dilemmas. Izumi Sawako, caring for the popular red pandas, struggles with her fear of animal mortality despite a potential pregnancy. Meanwhile, breeding leader Nakagawa Shinichi clashes with Sakauchi, especially after a tragic decision leads to an escaped flamingo being killed by a wild fox. Amidst falling public confidence and veteran keeper Makihara Yuichiro considering retirement, former school janitor Okamura Tetsu joins the team. Assigned to care for the zoo's oldest hippopotamus, Okamura slowly finds his footing. However, just as positive changes arrive with a new enclosure and a young hippopotamus, a devastating sight unfolds before Okamura, testing the resilience of the entire zoo.
