In 1949, Ip Man, suffering from chronic gastric problems, travels alone to Hong Kong to seek a new livelihood. He begins teaching Wing Chun on the rooftop of a building housing a hotel staff association. He quickly attracts many students, including Tang Shing, Leung Sheung, Lee King, and Chan Seimui. While his wife, Cheung Wingsing, briefly joins him, the harshness of life in Hong Kong forces her back to Foshan, and the couple never see each other again. Ip Man The Final Fight offers a realistic portrayal of the master's later years as he struggles against the vicissitudes of life. After his wife's death, he pursues a romance with the singer Jenny against the wishes of his students. The story also explores his complex father-son relationship with his elder son Ip Chun, his master-apprentice bonds, and his thoughts on Bruce Lee, who would become his most celebrated student.
