Description:

In the dramatic film Himatsuri The Fire Festival, a beautiful remote area of Japan is divided. The villagers are split between woodsmen worshipping the mountain goddess and fishermen worshipping the sea goddess. However, these sacred traditions are threatened by a planned marine park development. Tatsuo, a macho lumberjack who hunts boars and monkeys with young Ryota, is under intense pressure to sell his family land. He is married with two children and has four elder sisters to consider. Conflict escalates when the fishermen's fish pens are contaminated by oil, and suspicion falls heavily on Tatsuo. Meanwhile, Kimiko, an old girlfriend of Tatsuo, returns to the village seeking money to pay off her debts. The boiling tensions culminate during the annual fire festival. Here, Tatsuo becomes deeply angry as he watches their ancient, cherished traditions get ignored and destroyed by modernization.
