In the psychological thriller Higurashi no naku koro ni (Shrill Cries of Summer), early summer brings Keiichi to a remote mountain village. At first, he enjoys his new life, forming close friendships with a group of local girls. However, his peaceful days turn dark when Keiichi begins to suspect that Rena, Mion, and the others he trusted are deeply involved in successive murders that occur every summer. Suddenly, the girls' characters seem to completely change, and Keiichi's world spirals out of control. He discovers a sewing needle hidden in his food, gets chased by mysterious men, and narrowly survives a fatal accident. With his paranoia peaking, Keiichi can no longer trust anyone around him. This gripping mystery intensifies as one secret leads to another, ultimately driving the story toward a shockingly bloody ending.
