The action-comedy film Fat Buddies revolves around a pair of big-boned, bumbling partners who find themselves at the heart of a major drug trafficking case. The story follows Agent J, played by Zhang Wen, who suffers a brain injury during an intense A-level mission. The accident damages his hypothalamus, causing him to become a three-hundred-pound man with severe narcolepsy. Despite his condition, J still considers himself an ace agent. Sent to Japan to retrieve confidential documents, J decides to proceed with a hidden mission but suddenly faints in a local izakaya. He wakes up in a hospital and meets Handsome Hao, played by Hao BeiEr Bao, a security guard determined to prove his worth. Handsome Hao resolutely joins J on his quest. As they carry out the mission, this temporary partnership plunges the duo into a series of ridiculous and dangerous crises.
