"Familyhood" centers on Go Joo Yeon, a self-absorbed star actress grappling with a declining career in her 40s. Having always gotten her way, she's shattered to discover her secret, much younger boyfriend is exploiting her fame and cheating on her. Feeling utterly alone and with no one to trust, Joo Yeon desperately decides she needs a baby. Her plans are thwarted when an obstetrician reveals she has reached menopause.

At the hospital, Joo Yeon encounters Kim Dan Ji, a pregnant teenager in financial straits. Seizing an opportunity, Joo Yeon offers to adopt Dan Ji's baby, providing full support and a hidden place to stay until delivery. Dan Ji accepts. Joo Yeon then publicly announces her own "pregnancy," partly as an act of vengeance against her now-successful ex-boyfriend. As rumors about the baby's father spread, Joo Yeon's dignified declaration of becoming a single mother surprisingly revitalizes her career, making her more successful than ever. However, intoxicated by her renewed fame, Joo Yeon begins to neglect Dan Ji, and people around her grow increasingly suspicious.
