Distorted Ripples (2019)

Other name: 歪んだ波紋, ゆがんだはもん, 虛假的共犯, Yuganda Hamon

Description:

Distorted Ripples delves into the treacherous landscape of journalism, where the pursuit of truth can be easily sidetracked by deception. Reporter Masahiko stumbles upon what seems to be a significant scoop: a grieving wife is implicated in her husband's hit-and-run death. His professional excitement, a rare feeling lately, is short-lived. A former university schoolmate, now a chief editor of an online news website, unmasks the story as completely false, a deliberate fabrication planted by Masahiko's own colleague.

Determined to uncover the truth, Masahiko begins a desperate search for his disappeared colleague. Simultaneously, an old friend of Masahiko's father, a former national newspaper journalist, reappears with his own haunting quest. He is investigating whether a former colleague's suicide fifteen years ago was the direct consequence of an incorrect story that journalist had published. This compelling narrative explores how misinformation spreads like ripples, distorting facts and leaving a lasting, often tragic, impact on individual lives and the integrity of the news itself.
