In the psychological horror film Dark Water, newly divorced Yoshimi struggles to secure custody of her six-year-old daughter, Ikuku. Forced to move into a rundown apartment building, their lives soon turn into a nightmare. On the rooftop, Ikuku finds a little red handbag containing children's toys. Despite Yoshimi giving the bag to the caretaker, it mysteriously reappears in the same spot. Even worse, the locked and supposedly empty flat above them echoes with the unsettling sounds of footsteps and running children. This eerie mystery deepens with the legend of Mitsuko Kawai, a nursery school worker who vanished without a trace two years earlier, known for carrying that exact same red bag. As terrifying supernatural events escalate, Yoshimi must confront the dark secrets of the building to save herself and her daughter from the horrors lurking within.
