Butterfly Lovers 2017 presents a beautifully tragic and sad love story of two soulmates destined for heartbreak. The plot follows Ying Tai, a wealthy daughter who disguises herself as a man to attend an academy and pursue her intellectual needs. There, she meets and befriends Liang Shan Bo. The two spend their days and nights studying closely together. However, because Shan Bo is a gentlemanly nerd, he fails to recognize Ying Tai is actually a woman. By the time they finally realize their deep love for each other, it is too late. Ying Tai is forced to marry another man. Devastated by the heartbreaking news, Shan Bo falls critically ill and tragically dies. On her wedding day, a grieving Ying Tai sneaks away to visit his grave. Desperate to be reunited, she begs the grave to open, and when it does, she throws herself inside. In death, the lovers transform into a pair of beautiful butterflies, never to be separated again.
