Arechi No Koi is a compelling Japanese drama that explores love, passion, and the artistic struggle in the postwar era. The story begins in 1947 as poets Kitazawa Taro, Mitamura Kiichi, and Arikawa Nobuo gather to launch the poetry magazine Arechi. Twenty-eight years later in 1975, a fifty-three-year-old Kitazawa works at a newspaper proofreading department, quietly writing poetry while cherishing his ordinary, happy family life with his wife Haruko, daughter Yuko, and son Sho. However, a major turning point occurs when Kitazawa develops frequent contact with Akiko, the wife of his good friend Mitamura. Falling deeply in love, Kitazawa abandons his job and leaves his wife Haruko and their two children behind. As he begins to live with Akiko, who has also left her home, Kitazawa recovers an unprecedented passion and poetic words. Together, they embark on a dramatic new path, choosing to live the life of the wasteland.
