The drama film Anzukko tells the poignant story of Anzukko, the daughter of a successful novelist who lives with her parents in the provinces. After turning down several suitors, she decides to marry Ryokichi, a rookie writer with big dreams. Hoping for a bright future, the newlyweds settle in Tokyo. However, reality soon sets in. Ryokichi stubbornly persists in wanting to live by his trade, but he faces constant refusals by publishers. Unable to handle the professional rejection, Ryokichi starts drinking heavily and begins blaming his wife, Anzukko, for his own failures. As the financial and emotional strain grows, the young couple slowly sinks into absolute despair. Anzukko is a raw and emotional look at marital struggles and failed ambition.
