In Algernon ni Hanabata o 2015, Shiratori Sakuto is a 28-year-old man with the intelligence of a six-year-old boy. He works at Dream Flower Service alongside Yanagawa Ryuichi and dreams of becoming a good boy whom his mother will like. Meanwhile, at a brain physiology research centre, Mochizuki Haruka and Professor Hachisuka Daigo successfully improve the mental performance of a white mouse named Algernon. Backed by Kawaguchi Reiji, the research team searches for human subjects for a clinical trial. When Algernon escapes, the mouse approaches Sakuto on a roadside in Shibuya after Sakuto is punched and left bloodied. Following a special surgery, Sakuto is transformed into a genius. However, when Algernon's new intelligence begins to fade and the mouse dies, Sakuto realizes that his own genius is also destined to leave him.
