Aftershock is a powerful emotional drama that begins during the devastating 1976 Tangshan earthquake. Faced with an impossible dilemma, a grieving mother named Li Yuan Ni must choose between saving her twin children, Fang Deng and Da Feng, who are trapped under a giant concrete slab. Heartbroken, she chooses her son, unaware that her daughter overhears the choice before being left for dead. Fang Deng miraculously survives, gets adopted by a middle aged couple, and grows up harboring deep resentment toward her mother. Decades later, Li Yuan Ni remains consumed by guilt in Tangshan, refusing to leave her home, while Da Feng becomes a successful businessman. The family's unresolved trauma takes a dramatic turn in 2008 when another massive earthquake strikes Sichuan. Working as a volunteer, Fang Deng overhears another volunteer recount the tragic story of his mother's agonizing decision in 1976, paving the way for a heartbreaking confrontation with her past.
