In the romantic drama 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made, Sakuraba Junko is a hardworking parttime teacher at an English conversation school. She harbors a lifelong dream of moving to New York, though her goal feels like a distant reality. Along with a stagnant career, Junko has also faced a long dry spell in her romance life. However, her mundane routine takes an unexpected turn at a funeral service where she meets Hoshikawa Takane, a handsome monk and Tokyo University graduate. In a highly embarrassing moment caused by her numb legs, Junko accidentally spills a bowl of ashes directly onto Takane. Convinced she has ruined any chance of a good impression, Junko believes they will never cross paths again. Fate, however, has other plans. Soon after this disastrous encounter, Junko is shocked to find herself sitting across from Takane at a matchmaking session arranged by her mother.
