21 Carats 2018 is a delightful romantic comedy that explores the hilarious clash between two polar opposites when it comes to money and love. Adapted from a popular play by He Nian, the story follows Liu Jia Yin, a former spendthrift who goes completely bankrupt after breaking up with her wealthy boyfriend. Forced to pay off her massive debts, she has no choice but to sell all of her belongings. On the other end of the spectrum is Wang Ji Wei, an extremely frugal man who goes to wild extremes just to save a penny. Following an accidental meeting, these two contrasting individuals are forced to live under one roof. As they navigate their forced cohabitation, the pennypincher and the bankrupt shopaholic must learn to tolerate each other. This unexpected arrangement challenges their extreme lifestyles, forcing both Liu Jia Yin and Wang Ji Wei to reassess their views on material wealth and finding true romance.
