Happyend explores the deep bond between best friends Yuta and Kou, as they approach high school graduation in a near-future Tokyo. Their daily lives are overshadowed by the constant threat of a catastrophic earthquake, creating an atmosphere of underlying tension. An seemingly harmless prank on their principal unexpectedly leads to the installation of an oppressive surveillance system within their school. This mirrors a darkening national political situation, further tightening security measures across society.

As Kou becomes increasingly frustrated with the world, Yuta remains seemingly unaware of the growing societal anxieties.
